What’s the Best Idea You’ve Ever Had?

What’s the best idea you’ve ever had?

At last week’s Reinvention Summit, Elvin Turner posed that question. It got me thinking.

I tend to overthink things, like “in which area of life?” or “based on the outcome in the long-term, or what?”.

Then I just encouraged (with a sprinkling of giving out too!) myself to let all those questions float away, and hold the one question to mind.

What’s the best idea you’ve ever had?

Just see what comes up.

One of the best ideas I’ve ever had, if not the best, was to work with Sharon James, my first coach. From that idea flowed lots of other good ones.

Why?

Because I began to challenge my own operating system that had brought me to that point.

What got me there, was keeping me there.

My thinking, my beliefs, my fears, my patterns, my attitude.

I needed a reboot. Coaching provided that for me.

With Sharon’s help I started to visualise a life and career path that excited me, giving me greater meaning and purpose. I didn’t know that that career would be at the time.

But I kind of knew that clarity was emerging.

And then it did.

I qualified as a coach.

And now I get to support other people and teams identify and align their potential with their ideal outcomes. It’s a great privilege.

What helped me unlock myself was Sharon’s active listening and skillful questioning.

I love really powerful questions.

What’s the best idea you’ve ever had?

And when you’ve answered, you can consider the next one Elvin Turner asked…it really winded me. Because I know I am guilty of blocking myself in this regard.

What’s the best idea you’ve never had?

When we’re so busy all the time, we limit our capacity to think freely for ourselves.

We prevent the best ideas from breathing. We build a barrier to our own potential.
