The Big Leap

Are you ready for a Big Leap?

Without working harder?

I am! But first things first…

It’s time to let go of some stuff that act as anchors and create unnecessary drag.

You might not notice the drag this stuff creates.

It’s kind of like when you think you’ve released the handbrake in the car, but it’s actually still raised ever so slightly.

Before you’re fully aware of this, a sensor beep tells you something is up and you suddenly realise…”ah, that’s what was just going on…”

You had a sense of it but your focus was elsewhere at the time. You hadn’t paid any attention to it. Until you did.

You drop the handbrake down the final notch and the car’s performance feels true once more.

Now focus on yourself for a moment.

What’s holding you back?

There’s a drag or handbrake at play, I can guarantee you. And you can release it if you give it your attention – it’s totally up to you.

Let’s do a quick exercise to see…

Choose one area of your working life that’s a priority for you at the moment.

Reflect on the current reality in that area. What’s happening? What results are you seeing in this area of your life today?

Rate your current level of satisfaction in that area, out of 10. Give reasons for your rating.

Be specific. If it’s a 6, what brings it up to 6, what stops it being a 7?

Now, here’s the next part. This is important.

Taking complete ownership and responsibility for your future results, focusing on that which is WITHIN YOUR CONTROL AND INFLUENCE…

What can you let go of, or stop doing, that will improve the score?

Don’t worry (yet) about what you want to do next. Don’t worry (yet) about outside support you might call on.

For now, just focus on letting go of an unwanted pattern of behaviour, thought, emotion or dialogue.

The handbrake is off now. You’re aware of it. But there’s still a load of heavy waste and rubbish in the boot of the car.

It needs to be brought to the dump.

Whatever is coming up for you has either been dying to be noticed, or is tired of being ignored. It’s stinking your car out! You can’t ignore it.

To create room for your Big Leap – give the unwanted junk the boot first.

Too often we see our high-achieving clients with leadership responsibilities taking on more without first increasing their capacity. This isn’t a capability challenge, it’s a capacity one.

80/20 thinking. That can’t happen when you’re racing non-stop, without rest, without pause, without reflection or planning. We have to prune to grow.

Take that stuff to the dump!

We start making Big Leaps when we double down on our unique capabilities
