Fond Memories from 1988, More to Make

It was 1988. We packed everything into the Peugeot 505 and Dad drove us (me, Allison and Mum) up to, and beyond, Belfast.

We got the ferry from Larne to Stranraer, Scotland.

Golf heaven.

Even as a 10 year-old, I had an appreciation for the history and tradition that surrounded me. At that age I could reel off the past champions of the Open and the Masters easily. It was a way of bonding with my Dad.

We visited some of the most famous golf courses in the world, including Royal Troon, Turnberry and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. I got to play or caddy with Dad, depending on the course, access and availability.

Fond memories.

Including…the closest I have ever been to getting a hole-in-one. However, having shaved the hole, the ball ended up 10 feet past the pin and I missed the putt. Still, that was the closest yet!

Last weekend I got a call from a friend inviting me to The Open in Royal Troon today. He got his hands on some ‘behind the ropes’ tickets.

Yes please! Three of us head over this morning for the day.

As in 1988, I’m looking forward to a once in a lifetime experience.

It’s a nice way to start the next few weeks.

On Friday, I return for a day’s work before we head to Connemara for 3 weeks’ holidays. I may be working a bit in week 1, but that will be it. And only if I have to – that depends on how this week goes.

I will most definitely have 2 ½ weeks of complete down time.

Switching off from my business so that I recharge properly.

Switching on to myself, and my own needs, so that I can lead my business more effectively when I return.

In the meantime, you’ll continue to hear from me. I am working hard this week to ensure that you get valuable and interesting content when I’m away.

We’ve some exciting news to share, including some opportunities for you to engage with us in new and meaningful ways.

So enjoy the reads, the clips and the LinkedIn posts that are on the way.
