Finding Our Rhythm (Even in 40°+ Heat)

I’m writing this from Seville, where the temperature is hovering over 40 degrees. We were nervous about the heat, about how the kids would manage. When we arrived we discovered that we had more to figure out than we planned, everything closes between 3–8pm (except the Irish pub, of course).

But…we’ve adjusted. The kids have found their rhythm. We’ve figured out how to make it work.

It’s a theme that came up on our TRIPS Tank coaching call this week—how we navigate the juggle of summer, work and family life. Especially as parents.

Ciara’s in full flow with her new role, and I’ve had a little more flex. Clients have kindly shifted meetings (as did the TRIPS Tank community, as we were travelling on Monday).

The kids had a blast at an indoor padel lesson this morning. Everyone’s winning, more or less.

Not without our moments of course. We’ve had a few flare ups. I definitely haven’t covered myself in glory in those moments…some things are harder to learn than others!

Nevertheless, this week has reminded me: we always find a way. Whether it’s heatwaves abroad (there’s actually a severe weather warning here, break out the tiny violins!), summer camp drop-offs and collections at home, the return of AI panic or Trump doing his thing—external interference can be reframed as a prompt. A nudge to ask:

  • What’s working well?
  • What’s not?
  • What am I learning?
  • What might I do differently?

It applies to parenting, to business, to life.

I hope you’re finding your own rhythm this summer. And if you’re not, maybe it’s time to reset.
Start small.
