I didn’t know Eddie Jordan, but I know people who did.
Their accounts of him shared a common theme.
He was a trailblazer.
Some higher profile personalities shared their tributes too. The team at Whisper, with Bono’s help, paid tribute – watch here.
Jake Humphries shared his tribute through his podcast ‘High Performance’ platform. It’s quite moving, you can watch/listen here.
He speaks of a tattoo “FTB”, which stands for F#ck the Begrudgers
Last Friday a bunch of us got together for a Vision Board workshop with Caoimhe de Fréin.
I invited the business owners and leaders that form the TRIPS Tank community, and a bunch of coaches and mentors who support me and TRIPS Tank.
Caoimhe set the session up superbly.
Leveraging the pre-work we had completed, she asked us to bring our truest aspirations and intentions for ourselves in the year ahead to the fore. We were encouraged to move beyond any fear or limitations relating to these aspirations so that we could embrace the fire and focus they bring.
This is very much aligned to the TRIPS framework. The ‘I’ in TRIPS is about visualising and pursuing your ‘Ideal’ future. If we try to do that from the viewpoint of today, all of today’s limitations block the path.
When leading your team, if your meetings are all focused on this week’s activities and recent results, you’ll drown in urgency and tactics, depriving yourselves of important, breakthrough ideas.
The difference between those who make real leaps and those who stay in the grind isn’t talent or luck—it’s the willingness to step beyond what’s comfortable. Remember, what’s comfortable is what’s conditioned, not what’s right.
Eddie Jordan seemed to be fearless to many. I’m guessing he was as accustomed to fear-based emotions as any of us. I’m guessing he just found a way to navigate them, in pursuit of his own ideals.
There’s much we can learn from that approach.
- As the season changes, focus on what fears may be anchoring you to seasons past.
- As you embrace your own ideals, embrace them fully.
- FTB – the biggest of all who may just lie in your own mind.
