Back in 2015, I felt like a bit of a fraud.
I was coaching entrepreneurs and senior execs in business, and in the world of business, these men and women were big hitters.
Many had young families and ageing parents to look after. Each had their own well-being to consider too.
I’d coach them, listen to them, ask probing questions to help them self-assess what was working and what needed attention. I had all the productivity and performance tools on the shelf for them to choose from. They’d build their own system, bespoke to their personality, strengths and needs.
Then, life would throw in some curveballs. They would derail themselves at some stage.
I’d help them unpack a few layers. They’d come to understand their inner thoughts, emotions and beliefs which drove certain behaviours beneath the surface.
I was helping…so why did I feel like a bit of a fraud?
The truth was, I had imposter syndrome.
My inner critic was shouting at me “Why can’t you do this for yourself?”
That’s what the mind does. It plays tricks on us. When we’re faced with changing circumstances, it just wants to plough on with the same behaviours as before. It chooses the path of least resistance.
But that doesn’t work. Not for those among us who thrive on growth and progress. We have to keep reassessing ourselves to reinvent ourselves and the systems we build around us.
That’s how we thrive instead of just surviving.
Design Your Ideal Future is the framework I created to help myself walk my own talk.
We’re all flawed, nobody is perfect.
But by using the Design Your Ideal Future framework I was able to evaluate my inner system – my thoughts and behaviours – and that allowed me to confidently CHOOSE the exact steps I needed to take to overcome my doubts and “what if’s” and actually follow through on my promises to myself.
I was able to regain my power.
Since then, hundreds of my clients over the past few years have course-corrected and forged forward with self-belief and conviction using this framework.
If you want to control your response to the changing circumstances in your life and your business, give it a go. It’s easier to eliminate distractions and achieve the goals that matter most to you in a well-defined period of time.
That’s what breeds confidence, self-worth and personal success.
